Start with the separation requirement
For mineral fines, anionic product evaluation often begins with liquid quality and solids handling. For sludge conditioning, cationic product evaluation needs the installed equipment and capture requirement. A nonionic candidate should be supported by a process rationale rather than a blanket pH rule.
These are screening routes, not guarantees. Record upstream chemistry, representative feed variation and the preparation equipment. Preserve a current-product control when evaluating a replacement.
Ask what a proposed match means
A replacement described as equivalent might match an ionic label, a viscosity range or a use case. Ask which of these claims is intended and what evidence supports it. Do not let a familiar description substitute for the actual proposed code.
